Bespoke Narrowboat Builders

Hand-built narrowboats. Hire-fleet tough. Quality at a fair price.

Trinity Boats design and build bespoke narrowboats for private owners, with every boat tailored around how you want to cruise, live and spend time on the water.

Build slots are limited and timescales vary depending on specification — we recommend an early conversation to secure yours.

Why a Trinity build

The best-kept secret in narrowboat building

We build narrowboats the way they ought to be built. Strong shells. Quality fittings. By hand, by people who care. Here's what that means in practice.

Built tougher than it needs to be

Our yard also builds and maintains a working charter fleet, so every private boat we build is engineered to shrug off years of daily use. She'll handle anything you put her through.

Real components, properly fitted

No bargain-bin imports. No quiet substitutions. Every fitting on a Trinity boat — taps, stove, batteries, joinery — is the kind you'd specify if you were building her yourself.

Hand-built, not assembled

No production lines. No outsourced cabin work. Every Trinity boat is built end-to-end by a small team of craftspeople who know their work matters. You'll meet them.

Built around you

You're not buying off the shelf. You're commissioning a boat. Sit down with us — bring sketches, ideas, half-formed thoughts. Layout, finish, fittings, drive. We design and build around you.

How it works

From first conversation to handover

Commissioning a boat is a big step, so here's exactly what happens after you get in touch.

  1. Initial conversation

Tell us how you want to use the boat — cruising, living aboard, weekends away. We'll talk through options, budget and timescales. No obligation.

  2. Layout & specification planning

We design the layout, finish and fittings around you. Bring sketches, ideas or half-formed thoughts — that's plenty to work from.

  3. Quote & deposit

You'll get a clear, itemised quote for your specification. A deposit secures your build slot in the schedule.

  4. Build schedule

We agree the schedule, order your shell and confirm the key dates so you know what's happening and when.

  5. Progress updates

You'll see her come together — regular updates as the build progresses, and you're welcome to visit the yard.

  6. Handover

A full walkthrough of your finished boat, all documentation, and our aftercare — then she's yours.

Owners' words

What our build customers say

Trinity boats built our narrowboat, Provincetown, a few years ago and so we would like to give them a much overdue review on here. The build was just after Brexit trading restrictions came in and was during Covid lockdowns — so the team had their fair share of challenges when building it. But they ploughed through working tirelessly on the project. And we’re really happy with how our ideas and theirs came to fruition. The boat was also featured on the cover of Waterways World as have their other boats have been featured in boating magazines too.

To give some reassurance to the hire boat renters looking to hire one of their beautiful hire boats — when the Waterways World reviewer came to review our boat he told us (while looking into the engine bay) “you can tell they build hire boats, everything is well thought out with the build — including the safety measures put in place”.

A big thanks again to Dave, Phil and Penny. And a big big thank you again for the recent advice and help too.

Stuart Turnbull Provincetown

We found the team at Trinity Boats helpful, friendly and accommodating. From first sitting down with them to discuss the spec, to adding little extras as the build has come along they have taken everything in their stride. The result? A beautiful boat, built exactly how we wanted it with no snagging. How often does that happen? Nothing was too much trouble for them, the quality is second to none and we couldn’t be happier.

Would highly recommend.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a bespoke narrowboat build cost?

Our Standard Specification is £140,000 inc. VAT for a fully fitted 58′ 6″ boat, ready to live aboard. The final price depends on your layout, finish and options — electric drive, bespoke joinery and other upgrades are priced individually as part of your quote.

How long does a new narrowboat build take?

Timescales vary with specification and our current build schedule, and build slots are limited — so we'd always recommend an early conversation. We'll give you an honest estimate of lead time when we discuss your build.

Can I choose my own layout and interior finish?

Yes — every Trinity boat is bespoke. Bring sketches, ideas or half-formed thoughts and we'll design the layout, finish and fittings around how you plan to use the boat, whether that's a contemporary interior or traditional wood panelling.

Do you offer electric or hybrid narrowboat options?

Yes, electric drive options are available. Tell us how and where you plan to cruise and we'll advise on the right drive, battery and charging setup for your boat.

What is included in the standard specification?

Everything you need to live aboard from day one — a Tim Tyler hand-built steel shell, full galley and bathroom, diesel central heating and hot water, LED lighting and vinyl flooring throughout. See the "What comes as standard" section above for the summary, or open the full standard specification for every detail.
